It's not like that in all the Kiteboarding Centers. Last thing we don't use helmet radio because we only do private course and your kiteboarding teacher stay in the water with you during all the lessons and take care of you all the time, you're never alone in the water during the course. If walking backward was a big deal for you, I'm really sorry but keep in your mind that Kite boarding is an extreme sport and one day maybe you will be in trouble with your kite because of the wind, the wave or something else and when it will happen, you have to be ready to fight a little bit against the elements. If not you will pass all the lesson to try to recover your board in deep water and try to relaunch your kite. However to access to this type of lesson, you must have to water start well on the both side and master all the safety rules first. Hello We are sorry that you think the kite spot is not safe but riding in the lagoon is normally safer than the ocean, isn't it ? We do use a safety boat and follow the student in down wind for 8 years right now. To be a really good lesson, it needed a boat/jetski and a radio helmet, as Alban yelling over the wind and water noise was challenging. Again, this was not Alban's fault on the wind and current, but it wasn't a great place to do the lesson I ended up having to do. Tiring and not as fun as a downwinder would have been. It was necessary for me to walk in water upwind while flying kite, then launch, make it as far as I could on the return upwind and up-current (which usually wasn't far enough), then repeat. The downside was that the site that I had to use (tip of Matira Beach) was really sub-optimal: significant current across direction of sailing, major underwater obstacles (read: corral and rocks), limited area of sandy bottom. Nice guy, good equipment, though he really could benefit from a radio helmet setup.

Alban did a nice job of giving me tips on kiting, so no complaints there. For scheduling and wind direction reasons out of Alban's control, we were unable to do the downwinder which was planned.

I was just on Bora Bora and did a lesson with Alban.
